Jennifer Hudson opens up about family’s role in creating her new album

Jennifer Hudson has revealed that her 15-year-old son played a key role in helping create her new Christmas album.

While having a conversation with People magazine, the daytime talk show host shared that both her 15-year-old son David Daniel Otunga Jr. and boyfriend Common helped with her new Christmas project.

The 43-year-old hitmaker of Spotlight said, “[My son] helped name this holiday album, The Gift of Love.”

Hudson added, “He’s a holiday fanatic just like me. He’s been very present within this whole thing.”

“We would sit by the fireplace, watch holiday movies together. He even went ‘Mama, this song right here is my favorite song off of the Christmas album.’ Giving his two cents. He’s encouraging, he helped me learn different notes,” the EGOT winner stated.

She went on to highlight that “everything is family-oriented, even that process.”

Elsewhere in the interview, Hudson confessed that she aims to teach her son Christmas traditions along with music.

The Here I am crooner mentioned by saying, “He’s always looking for gifts to give others. He’s a giver. And that’s how he was raised.”

“That’s the tradition that’s within him. He is very much like me. He loves to see everyone come together and have dinner together, have a good time together and seeing the unity in it all,” Hudson concluded.

For the unacquainted, The Gift of Love came out in October this year, which is Hudson’s first holiday album and her first album following the releases of Respect soundtrack in 2021 and JHUD in 2014.

It is important to mention that Hudson shares Otunga Jr. with her ex-fiancé, who is a former WWE star, David Otunga.
