Raygun’s legal team halts ‘The Musical’ to protect her reputation

A planned trial show of Breaking: The Musical, a parody based on Olympic break-dancer Raygun’s rise to fame, has been canceled following legal action from her representatives.

The musical, written and performed by Australian comedian Steph Broadbridge, was set to debut at Kinselas in Darlinghurst, Sydney, on Saturday evening.

However, Raygun’s lawyers issued a cease-desist letter, claiming that the show could erase confusion regarding their client’s involvement and brand.

According to Daily Mail, the 90-minute musical, which explored Raygun’s viral journey to the 2024 Paris Olympics, featured her signature dance moves, including the popular “kangaroo dance.”

Moreover, Raygyn’s management, Born Bred Talent, expressed concern that the show might mislead audiences into thinking Raygun endorsed or approved of it.

Meanwhile, the lawyers also trademarked the promotional poster featuring Broadbridge’s likeness, as per the outlet.

In a statement, Broadbridge confirmed the cancellation and expressed her frustration over the legal actions, clarifying that Raygun was not involved in the production but had been invited to participate.

Furthermore, Broadbridge also announced plans to relaunch the show in 2025 with a new character name, “Raigun,” to avoid further confusion, as per publication.
