Matt Preston, a famous food critic and writer, has decided to quit his radio job at ABC Melbourne.

While having a conversation with Herald Sun, Preston revealed that he wants to spend more time with his family and work on other projects, saying, “It is a big commitment, and the woman I love would like her husband back for the weekends.”

Shedding light on his decision, he added, “(This decision) allows me to do a whole lot of stuff I have not been able to do. It is time to do the more ridiculous things that I now have the time to do.”

Moving forward, the 63-year-old MasterChef Australia judge shared more of his personal plans, including swimming 3 km from Albania to Corfu, an annual charity swim.

He also stated that he wanted to attend the Jaipur Literature Festival in India.

Moreover, talking about his time at ABC Melbourne, Preston quipped, “I have had an amazing three years talking about so much more than food.”

He went on to explain by saying, “Live (radio) is a totally new skill for me, so that has been a big challenge, but I have been able to talk to the most amazing array of people from a whole different selection of worlds, as well as have the immediate interaction with listeners both on the phone line or on the text line.”

Preston, who has hosted the ABC show since 2022, mentioned that he would miss doing “The Cat and Matt Show,” a sports segment with Catherine Murphy.

For the unversed, Plate of Origin star has hosted the Saturday morning show for three years.

Now, following Preston’s exit, Jacinta Parsons will take over the show after the final episode on December 14, 2024.
