Alfa Anderson, the singer, who was an early vocalist for 1970s disco band Chic, has died at the age of 78.

As reported by PEOPLE, the news was shared by Chic co-founder Nile Rodgers on Instagram.

In the post, he also shared a montage of photos, sound tracked by At Last I Am Free, which featured Alfa’s vocals. He wrote, “Thank you for everything.”

Moreover, the montage read, “RIP Alfa Anderson. CHIC organization. Forever loved [prayer and heart emojis] (sic).”

However, no further details about her death was mentioned.

Alfa rose to fame when she joined the newly-formed 1970s group, featuring Tony Thompson on drums and Norma Jean Wright on vocals.

Before that, the late singer, who appeared on famous tracks including Le Freak, Good Times, Everybody Dance and I Want Your Love, began her career after featuring in a jazz musician Cannonball Adderley’s Big Man, which debuted at Carnegie Hall in 1976.

During the 1970s, the late singer recorded backing vocals for a wide range of artists including Nat Adderley, Ray Barretto, Odyssey, and Roy Buchanan.

She also featured on the soundtrack to The Wiz, which was produced by Quincy Jones.
