The anti-monarchy group Republic has launched a new campaign after Prince Andrew was landed in new controversy.
In a statement issued on its website, the Republic says campaigners have called on MPs to launch a full-blown inquiry into royal corruption.
The call comes after fresh allegations about Prince Andrew, but also raises concerns about abuse of office by King Charles and Prince William, it further said.
The group has submitted a petition to parliament in the hope of getting the issue debated by MPs. The group will also be writing to MPs and ministers to raise the issue directly.
The group’s chief Graham Smith says, “The royals hide their corruption in plain sight. The list of accusations is long and growing longer, at what point will MPs sit up and take notice?”
“We need full disclosure of all gifts and business relationships, all friendships with questionable contacts from dictators to foreign spies.”
“And we need a full account of the use of public money for private costs, including the exploitation of the Duchies and their avoidance of taxes.”
The group has launched the campaign after reports a businessman who had forged close links with Prince Andrew and was authorised to act on his behalf to seek investors in China has been banned from Britain on national security grounds.
