Ariana Grande has disclosed the inspiration behind the title of the Wicked sequel, now officially named Wicked: For Good.

The highly anticipated sequel, set to release on November 21, 2025, marks the continuation of Universal’s two-part adaptation of the acclaimed Broadway musical.

The announcement, made via a brief video on the Wicked Instagram, revealed the title as a nod to the musical’s climatic duet, For Good.

Grande revealed in an interview with Variety that the phrase was printed on the original hard-copy scripts given to the cast.

In regards to this, she shared, “We were floating around different ideas, but were there since day one. I’m glad it’s official now because we grew rather attached to it,” she shared.

According to Daily Mail, the sequel will bring back Ariana Grande as Glinda the Good Witch and Cythia Erivo as Elphaba, the green-skinned girl who transforms into the Wicked Witch of the West.

Directed by Jon M. Chu, the first installment of Wicked premiered during Thanksgiving week and has since surpassed $500 million globally at the box office.

The upcoming sequel will also feature an ensemble cast, including Jonathan Bailey, Ethan Slater, Michelle Yeoh, Jeff Goldblum, and Peter Dinklage.

In addition to its title change, the studio announced sing-along screenings of Wicked starting Christmas Day, encouraging fans to celebrate the musical’s legacy.

As anticipation builds for Wicked: For Good, Cynthia Erivo reflected on the rigorous training required for such a demanding role, noting the bond she developed with Grande during production as Erivo shared with Elle Magazine, “I’ve gained a sister.”
