Austin Butler is set to take on the role of American Psycho in the new movie.
According to a report by Variety, Butler is set to play the role made famous by Christian Bale.
It is worth mentioning that the film will not be a remake of the 2000 movie American Psycho, which starred Bale.
However, it will be an adaptation of Bret Easton Ellis’ 1991 controversial novel.
The Dune: Part Two actor’s casting has sparked excitement, as he steps into a role that has already become a landmark in film history. However, the upcoming adaptation will explore the story in a new way with Luca Guadagnino bringing his unique vision to the project.
Previously, the director, Mary Harron, admitted that Bale’s role almost went to Leonardo DiCaprio.
Speaking on the 20th anniversary of American Psycho, he said, “Obviously, I think [Leonardo] DiCaprio’s a great actor, but I thought she was wrong for it.”
“I thought Christian was better for it, and I also thought, and I think my instinct was right on this, [DiCaprio] carried enormous baggage because he had just come off Titanic and I thought you cannot take someone who has a worldwide fanbase of 15-year-old girls, 14-year-old girls and cast him as Patrick Bateman,” Harron added further.
