King Charles has honoured Christopher Nolan with a knighthood and his producer wife Emma Thomas a damehood for their services to film.
Later, reacting to the honour, the British director noted it was “really wonderful” to meet King Charles, adding that it was “very special” for him and his wife to receive the honors together.
Nolan also highlighted that he was happy the monarch was aware of his work.
He said, “It was very nice that he knew our work and was aware of it, and, yes, he was hoping that I would take this as encouragement to do more of it.”
Nolan further revealed that King Charles told him he watched his film Oppenheimer – the 2023 summer blockbuster that ended up winning seven Oscars.
“He’d seen Oppenheimer, and he liked it, so that was very gratifying to hear.”
Meanwhile, Emma Thomas said she’d “never even dreamed of anything like this happening”, calling the damehood “mind blowing” and “even more meaningful” that it was received alongside her husband.
The palace also shared photos of the Hollywood couple saying “The couple were recognised for their extraordinary contribution to Film, with their partnership producing major blockbusters such as The Dark Knight trilogy and Oppenheimer.”
