Jamie Foxx revealed just how close he came to losing his life following his 2023 health scare during the taping of his new Netflix special, Jamie Foxx: What Had Happened Was.
The Oscar-winning actor, 46, reportedly shared his “near-death experience” with an audience in Atlanta, telling them he was “literally within an inch of his life” after a mysterious medical emergency left him unconscious for weeks.
Audience member Demecos Chambers told CNN that Foxx recounted passing out on the set of Back in Action and waking up 20 days later in a coma. “He was in a stone-cold coma,” Chambers said, quoting Foxx’s description of his ordeal.
Chambers further recalled Foxx saying that he came “within an inch of his life,” noting that “if he didn’t get to the hospital in that moment and the nurse didn’t treat him in a certain timeframe, he said he would have died.”
The father of two also credited his family, particularly his daughters Corinne and Anelise, for playing a vital role in his recovery. The girls would reportedly play the guitar to their musician father which “kept him alive” and roused him from his coma.
“He really worships his daughters,” Chambers said. “They play a significant part of the show.”
Now, fully recovered but still in the process of regaining his strength, Foxx joked about how “great he feels” while giving a memorable performance during the taping.
The award-winning comedian will address the ordeal in greater detail when the special premieres on December 10.
