Justin Baldoni has opened up about the idea that men can’t be victims as he revealed of suffering trauma caused by an ex-girlfriend.
The It Ends With Us actor, in an interview with How to Fail podcast by host Elizabeth Day, while talking about it revealed that he was s******* traumatised by a woman he dated in his younger years.
The 40-year-old actor said that he struggled for a long time with the idea of “acknowledging that a woman could take advantage” of him.
According to Baldoni, he had “wrestled with that trauma” for the rest of his life.
“Because in my head a man can’t experience sexual trauma at the hands of a woman,” the actor claimed.
The Jane the Virgin alum also shed light that on how he felt that the idea men can’t be victims.
“It’s also the way that society has kind of made me feel that, you know, it’s only the other way around, when in reality it can happen,” he noted.
Baldoni went on to explain, “I told myself for 15 years after that that wasn’t actually what happened and that I did want it and all of the things that women have been feeling and experiencing for a long time.”
Elsewhere in the interview the actor also shared that he experienced a near breakdown on the sets of It Ends With Us.
Baldoni then shared that he turned to “a lot of somatic therapy” at times when he was “actually just shaking” during the production of the film starring Blake Lively.
