King Charles had initially considered inviting Prince Harry and Meghan Markle to this year’s Trooping the Colour but reportedly decided against it due to concerns they might overshadow the event.
Royal expert Tom Quinn revealed that discussions about including the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were short-lived. The Sussexes, who haven’t attended the King’s Birthday Parade since stepping down as senior royals in 2019, were briefly considered for the guest list. However, the idea was swiftly rejected.
Quinn told The Mirror, “There was a brief discussion among the senior Royals about inviting Harry and Meghan to Trooping the Colour. The idea was quickly dismissed because even if they accepted the invitation, there is a feeling that they cast a dark shadow over everything.”
Despite reports of an ‘open invitation’ for the Sussexes to attend royal events, they opted not to participate. Daily Mail’s Diary Editor Richard Eden, speaking on Palace Confidential, mentioned, “There’s said to be an open invitation for Harry and Meghan to attend any big royal events that are still available.”
The decision to exclude the couple from the Trooping the Colour highlights ongoing tensions within the royal family, raising questions about future public appearances by the Sussexes at royal events.
