Madonna just revealed the tragic reason behind her being an AIDS activist.

The 66-year-old musical icon, who’s late brother, Christopher Ciccone, who passed away in October 2024 due to prostate cancer, revealed how the loss of her friends in the AIDS epidemic made her realize how she could help and support those who needed her help.

This even led the Hung Up singer to go as far as to pay for artist Martin Burgoyne’s medication before he died in 1986 and even convinced her then-husband, Sean Penn to fly all the way to Mexico to obtain a drug that was believed to cure AIDS.

Expressing her sentiments over her pal’s death, Madonna told The Times, “What could I do? I loved him. And people with Aids are treated like they’re lepers or something.”

“If they contract Aids, all their friends disappear,” she added.

The Material Girl continued, “That’s not a friend. How could I desert him? He was really my best friend.”

Additionally in recent events, Madonna sparked controversy over social media by uploading rather risqué pictures of her and Pope Francis together, though AI generated, it led many to wonder how long would the pop star’s feud with the catholic church go on.
