Mel Gibson shares explosive secrets about ‘The Resurrection of the Christ’

Oscar-winning filmmaker Mel Gibson has revealed plans to shoot The Resurrection of the Christ next year, calling the project “very ambitious.”

The 69-year-old Hollywood legend was the latest guest on Joe Rogan’s podcast, where he shared his hope to start making a sequel to The Passion of the Christ next year.

He quipped, “I’m hoping next year sometime. There’s a lot required because it’s an acid trip. I’ve never read anything like it.”

“My brother and I and Randall all sort of congregated on this. So there’s some good heads put together, but there’s some crazy stuff.”

“And I think in order to really tell the story properly, you have to really start with the fall of the angels, which means you’re in another place; you’re in another realm. You need to go to hell. You need to go to Sheol,” he noted.

Gibson went on to reveal that the script for the film was written by him, his brother, and Randall Wallace (Braveheart) over seven years.

Articulating his plans about the cast, Anthony Hopkin’s co-star in the 1984 film The Bounty star shared that he wants Jim Caviezel to play Jesus again.

Gibson mentioned that he would need to use “a few techniques,” like CGI, to make Caviezel look younger because more than 2 decades have passed since the release of the first film.

For the unversed, the film will focus on Jesus Christ’s resurrection, as the first movie ends with Jesus’ crucifixion, and in the Bible, Jesus comes back to life three days later.

It is pertinent to mention that the sequel to The Passion of the Christ will be called The Resurrection of the Christ.
